We are grateful to David Tod of Anstruther for allowing us to share this piece from Commercial Fishing which was published in 1970. The article is about David’s stern trawler, St Adrian KY245 (Yard No. 2) which was built at Campbeltown Shipyard the same year as this was published. David’s design for St. Adrian was innovative as you see from this piece, Net Drum Trawling with St. Adrian.
The St Adrian was designed by owner, David Tod of Anstruther, who is no stranger to readers of Commercial Fishing. It was built by Campbeltown Shipyard at Campbeltown in Argyll and is powered by a Cummins 180 hp engine (see CF last issue). Steering is hydraulic and so is the trawl winch which was manufactured by Smith Brothers of Anstruther (Now Graham Farrier and Co. Ltd.) who have a long held reputation for winch downdrives and associated equipment.
This edition of the magazine also features adverts for both the Cummins Marine Diesel Engine and for marine engineers, Graham Farrier and Co. Ltd.
Another article about St Adrian was published in Skipper Owners Magazine.
(David will expand on St.Adrian’s design for us in due course).
