We are very grateful to John Robertson of Wick for sending in these photos of a model of the Opportune BCK 105 made by his father, Don Robertson. The Opportune (Yard No. 013) was built at Campbeltown Shipyard in 1973 for George and James Murray of Buckie (Don Fishing Company, Peterhead).

The model is 1/48 scale, is 20″ long, and has a moulded fibreglass hull and whaleback. The deck is made from thin plywood and the superstructure is plastic. All the fittings are made from wood, plastic and metal.

Don was a television and radio engineer. He was also a local assistant lighthouse keeper at Noss Head Lighthouse. He was always interested in anything to do with the sea and shipping. He made quite a few model boats including one of the Boy Andrew WK 171 (Yard 044) for Campbeltown Shipyard when the boat was new. Sadly there aren’t any photos of this model.
