Here we have some newspaper articles published in the Campbeltown Courier from 1971-1972 about the Halcyon (Yard No. 007), which built in Campbeltown Shipyard as a fisheries research vessel for Lake Turkana (formerly Lake Rudolf) in Kenya. She was commissioned by the Overseas Development Administration to carry out surveys of Lake Turkana. You can read more about the Halcyon in an article written for us by Professor Ronald J. Roberts FRCVS FRCPath FRSE here and you can read another article from the Campbeltown Courier here. We are grateful to Jan MacDonald for sharing two of her late husband, Jimmy’s photos of the Halcyon in Campbeltown Loch before the vessel was transported to Africa.
