This year in September myself and my other half, Paul Barham, (an architect when he’s not volunteering on this project!), took a cottage in Gardenstown or Gamrie, as it’s known by the locals. We took advantage of our trip to Banff and Buchan to visit the Campbeltown Shipyard archive at Macduff Shipyard in Buckie and to visit skippers in both Peterhead and Fraserburgh. During our week there, Jackie Green, whose family commissioned the Campbeltown Shipyard Connaught II FR 131, came from Fraserburgh to visit us. It was great to meet Jackie as he has been a keen follower of the Top Skippers’ Choice project. He kindly brought along some of his Connaught II memorabilia for us to photograph. He also gave us an embroidered jacket for Leslie Howarth, former Managing Director at CSL, which I duly handed over to Les on my following trip to Campbeltown (see photo). There are lots of photos of a 1:34 scale model of the Connaught II built by Nick Crawford of Skye Model Boats as well as some other memorabilia related to Jackie’s uncle’s boat.
