Research/Makarski Jadran – From the Faroes to Croatia

Who would have thought that Research TN 449 (Yard No. 43) built in 1979 would have ended up in Croatia?

Research TN 449 was originally commissioned by B. Petersen and Partners of the Torshavn, in the Faroe Islands. She was built as a 26.9 metre boat but was lengthened to 32.69 metres in Skagen, Denmark in 1983.  She fished until 2004 and then became a ferry in Croatia.

Her current owner, Tomislav Mito Mravičić, lives in Makarska, a coastal town on the Adriatic. She is now named Makarski Jadran (Literally “Makarski Journey”) and works as a popular excursion boat during the day and in the evening she functions as a fish restaurant. There is also a disco/club which is situated where the cold storage used to be. Makarski Jadran has probably become one the most famous vessels in that part of Europe. Tomislav Mito Mravičić, is well known amongst locals and holiday makers alike and is described as “a living legend”.

    “Makarski Jadran” literally means
“Makarska’s Adriatic” or “Adriatic of Makarska”
