Leslie Howarth, former Managing Director at Campbeltown Shipyard Ltd, received a letter in November 1986 notifying him that he was to be awarded an OBE for services to the Scottish fishing boat building industry. It was announced in the press on the 1st of January 1987. That same day Leslie was travelling down to Campbeltown from Shetland, where he had just secured two orders for boats from skippers there, each worth more than a million pounds. Leslie received his OBE at Buckingham Palace in March 1987. He’s pictured below with his son, Craig, in what we think is an article published in Fishing News.
